The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
