The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground
England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship campaign at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the relatively straightforward passage for a tournament hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s match since eight years ago, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to stage the Three Lions for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.
England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, should they win Group B, their knockout stage opener would take place at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.
Competition Opening and Demonstration
The event was unveiled at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the venue by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged the Israeli team to be removed from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Banners were displayed with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.
The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for European club finals from the upcoming season, will cater to households and help connect with a wider spectrum of viewers.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would do the same at Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will take part in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through that route.
Stadiums and Playoffs
Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches staged at each country’s national stadium.
The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.
