The rugby star won 20 international appearances for New Zealand before transferring loyalty to the Samoan team.

The NRL's administration has declared that participants who sign with the “rebel” R360 competition will be prohibited for a decade.

R360, scheduled to begin in 2026, is aiming to attract players from union and league with lucrative deals and a reduced fixture list.

Leading rugby league players have allegedly been contacted by the breakaway group, which will include six or eight men's clubs and four women's sides based in major cities around the world.

Samoa's the player, who is with his NRL club in the league, has confirmed he has had negotiations involving the new organization.

Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Gray are also reported to be weighing up offers from R360.

A group of union teams, including Australia, last week imposed a ban on R360 recruits participating in global fixtures.

“We've listened to our teams and we've taken firm action,” stated ARLC chief V'Landys.

“Regrettably, there will always be groups that attempt to hijack our game for potential financial gain.

“They don't invest in development systems or the advancement of players. They simply exploit the dedication of existing bodies, endangering athletes of monetary damage while profiting themselves.

“They are, in reality, copying the game.”

The league is launched by former England World Cup winner Tindall and funded by independent financiers.

Subsequent to the prospective rugby union bans were revealed earlier, it said: “We aim to collaborate in partnership as a component of the worldwide fixture list.

“The competition is structured with tailored timetables for male and female sides and the organization will permit participants for global fixtures, as written into their contracts.”

R360 will seek approval for its plans from rugby union's governing body, the sport's regulatory group, at its board session in 2026.
