Presence
Soderbergh challenges his creative boundaries through this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the viewpoint of the phantom. After a clan including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their recent residence, the filming device – representing the ghost – follows them around. Chloe seems conscious of the supernatural presence, and it looks like protective of her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that could catch you off guard. This Saturday, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective despite the lack of a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of disappearances has left the children anxious. After Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and locked up in a dungeon, he dreads the worst. However, the disconnected phone in the room keeps ringing, with spooky callers providing assistance, as the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, nighttime, on Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for materialism in this director's brilliantly over-the-top true story about the fallen televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who declares early on, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple set about monetising the nation's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, bad makeup and insincerity, however Chastain achieves to show the character as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, late night, on Film4
