Fans Urge Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are demanding that a man who jumped a fence and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed contains videos of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another comment on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while others requested online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Academy Award nods, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
