Devastating News on UPS Crash: Death Toll Increases to 13

The tally of victims from the transport jet that caught fire and went down has climbed to 13, per recent announcements.

Mayor's Statement

While en route to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that died as a consequence of the plane accident,” stated the city mayor in a social media post. “My heart are with the families, friends and colleagues of all who were taken in this week’s calamity. We will endure this as one.”

Victims Identified

A statement from the company identified the flight crew on board the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts are extended to all UPSer who has been touched and everyone in our local community – supporting you and ensuring you receive the care and resources you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message expressed.

Probe Updates

Federal officials revealed that the freight aircraft’s port side wing caught fire and an engine fell off just after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the plane to plummet and burst into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is investigating the aircraft’s service record, that was in Texas for fixes several weeks before the crash.

Flight tracking information indicated the jet was on the ground in the Texas city from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this plane was present in the facility,” said an NTSB member on the following day, not giving a precise date range. “We will review all elements of maintenance that was performed, including the San Antonio time, all the way to the day of the flight.”

Retrieval of Vital Items

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was found on the runway.

The recorders – referred to as data containers – were designed to endure crash impacts and severe fire from infernos, and they looked to be intact when located among the remains. Officials will reviewing information from the recorders.

Jet’s concluding data recordings showed an height of 475 feet and a speed of 210 miles per hour ahead of the accident.

Maintenance History

Per aviation authority records from 18 September, a fracture on a component in the center wing fuel tank demanded maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it supplies structural repairs for the company’s aircraft and operates a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to speak, but expressed it would work closely when investigators contacted it.

Operations Continue

Meanwhile, the facility activities restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air also known as night sort procedure, representative Jim Mayer confirmed. Each of the three landing strips at the aviation hub were also back in operation.

The sorting center in the city is the firm’s largest. The facility hires in excess of a large number of workers in the locality, handles 300 aircraft per day and processes over a huge volume of parcels per hour.

Local Reaction

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the area Teamsters Union, which represents staff at the aviation hub, the company’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for staff, commenced the gathering with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the approximate time of the crash previously.

“This incident was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the leader addressed the group of attendees. “No one had a chance to part to any one of those who we have lost.”
