Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
